High praise was given to MultiLing during the 52nd annual conference of the American Translators Association (ATA) in Boston, Massachusetts in October. Much of the discussion there focused on translation technologies. In spite of the many predictions by experts who believe the translation industry is facing consolidation and decreased availability, many companies were able to present innovative solutions to counteract that theory. In a “Tools” forum, leading industry representatives (including Lionbride, SDL, Wordfast, MemSource, MultiCorpora, Kilgray, Terminotix, Atril, Madcap, and of course, MultiLing) were able to ask critical questions regarding technology to their competitors. During this forum, MultiLing’s self-developed software, Fortis®, stood out from the competition. In particular, many experts were impressed with the excellent level of standardization of the software.  

Twice a year the German Professional Association for Technical Communication and Information Development (tekom) hosts a symposium. The fall conference in Wiesbaden, Germany in particular has firmly established itself as a meeting place for the entire German translation industry. Michael Sneddon and the MultiLing team had more than 180 different discussions in two days and provided an exciting atmosphere at the conference, concluding with their traditional raffle at the MultiLing display.

White Paper on Automation Processes

In a recently published white paper, Jeremy Coombs, Vice President of Project Management at MultiLing, describes the benefits and risks of automation strategies. Macros and scripts can be very effective in facilitating the processing of repetitive tasks on computers, but they may also cause additional risks in the translation process. Patent Translations Require Special Skills

In an article recently published in the prestigious journal World Intellectual Property Review, Michael Sneddon, CEO of MultiLing, and Heide Ruplinger, head of Business Development at MultiLing, describe the special requirements for those who translate patent documents. Michael Sneddon emphasized that, “Just as writing a patent requires specific expertise, translating one requires the same expertise with the additional skill of native fluency in the target language.” Both authors are convinced that translating patent documents requires more skill than just having a bilingual language background.
