PROVO, Utah – July 25, 2011 – All offices of MultiLing Corp., a global translation service provider, have successfully completed an audit performed by the Austrian Standards Institute and LICS (Language Industry Certification System). The successful completion of the audit means that MultiLing USA, headquartered in Provo, Utah, as well as its branches in Germany, Italy, Peru, Korea, and Japan, are certified according to the European and German standard (DIN) EN-15038:2006 as of July 15, 2011.
This quality standard encompasses the “core translation process and all other related aspects involved in providing the service, including quality assurance and traceability.” In addition, it also dictates and defines the requirements of the translation service provider regarding personnel and technical resources, quality control, project management, basic contractual parameters with clients, and the method for providing the service.
The standard stipulates, among other things, that a translation must always be proofread by a qualified individual who is not the original translator. It also specifies the professional skills needed by those involved in the translation process.
Translators must satisfy at least one of the following three conditions:
- A formal education in translation from an accredited university
- An equivalent education in another subject plus at least two years of documented translation experience
- At least five years of documented professional translation experience
Proofreaders must also have translation experience in the respective subject areas.
For Michael Sneddon, CEO of MultiLing, the successful certification is a validation of the high-quality standards MultiLing has been practicing for years: “More than 500 highly qualified translators working in our global network only translate within their field of expertise and only into their native language. The final review or proofreading of a translation is always done by a separate individual qualified in that specific field. With the European certification for all of our MultiLing branches, our high standards have now been formally documented. Our clients working in technical fields, including patent attorneys in global companies, will receive the necessary assurance that MultiLing’s translations are the highest quality available.”
