Commonly Asked Client Questions
Into what languages can you translate?
Our teams can translate into virtually any requested language. We have production offices around the world (Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea, Germany, Latin America, the United States, and Italy) that serve as hubs for every language in the region, including high-demand Asian languages like Chinese (simplified and traditional), Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Malay, and Indonesian; and similarly popular European languages such as German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Polish, Portuguese, as well as Scandinavian and Slavic languages.
How can MultiLing make patent translation and filing easier for my legal team?
We focus on reducing your overhead and simplifying your patent-filing processes. You can seamlessly add us into your existing processes, or we can introduce cost-saving systems that can ultimately streamline your workload and reduce costs. In the end, we strive to make working with us simple, so your team can turn its attention to more complex challenges.
Why are some translation languages costlier than others?
The cost of translation is driven by language complexity and market factors. For example, a translation project sent to Iceland might cost more—due to cost of living and scarcity of resources—than the same project in China. Both languages are considered complex, though qualified translators for Icelandic are less available than those for Chinese Simplified. Prices vary accordingly.
What other factors influence the cost of translation?
We offer two types of translation service levels, Publication and Reference. Experienced, in-country translators provide the base translation for both. Our Publication quality service offers a layer of review to reduce grammatical or other errors and production to meet formatting requirements. Clients choose Publication quality for legal or other projects intended for external audiences.
How does MultiLing address liability?
MultiLing does not replace the foreign agents your company chooses to file patents in foreign jurisdictions. Rather, we work with foreign agents to ensure their review of a high-quality translation delivered on-time and according to country specifications.
How would using MultiLing for patent translation services lower my costs?
From the outset, MultiLing’s centralized model makes patent translation more efficient. For example, we develop shared glossaries where corporate terminology is maintained and disseminated among translators. Over time, clients who partner with MultiLing see cost decreases from fewer office actions, growing translation memory, and lower administrative overhead.
Does MultiLing guarantee the quality of its work?
Yes. We’re not perfect, but we stand behind every translation project we complete. If you’d like to make change to a translation after it has been delivered, we’ll take care of it, free of charge.
How long does it typically take to complete and return a translation project?
Highly qualified linguists translate at a rate of approximately 2,000 words per day. At this rate, projects under 5,000 words normally take 3-5 business days to complete. We know you will have occasional rush projects. Our project management team works hard to accommodate your scheduling timeline. If you need a faster turnaround, please contact us.
